The Dr. Constance M. Carroll Chancellor Emerita Scholarship

The Dr. Constance M. Carroll Chancellor Emerita Scholarship provides funding for students pursing a degree or profession in the Humanities or Education. This scholarship was created in honor of Dr. Constance M. Carroll, Ph.D., Chancellor Emerita of the San Diego Community College District and her extraordinary contributions to academia, education, and the community.

Dr. Carroll served as chancellor of the San Diego Community College District for 17 years, is a national leader in the tuition-free Promise movement, and helped establish the California Community College Baccalaureate Program. A lifelong academic and advocate for the Humanities, Dr. Carroll earned degrees in Humanities and Classics and was appointed by President Barack Obama to the National Council on the Humanities for six years in 2011 and by President Biden to the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities in 2023.

The scholarship is awarded to one student each year at City who demonstrates academic achievement and a commitment to service and/or social justice.

If there is no funding or there are no qualified applicants that reflect this format the scholarship will not be awarded for that year.
