SDIAS Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship

Scholarship Description
The Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship is intended to provide financial support for community college students who demonstrate financial need and are the first in their family to attend college. The amount of the scholarship will be determined annually based upon the number of awards and available funds.

Eligibility Criteria
Students must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship:
• Must be currently enrolled in 9 or more units for Spring 2024 at the San Diego Community College District
• Must have completed an application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) or Dream Act, and to be eligible for financial aid (demonstrated need)
• Must be pursuing a career-technical program of study

Selection Criteria

  • Finalists will be required to participate in a short interview with members of the San Diego Indian American Society (SDIAS) to be conducted on campus.

Award- $1,000 and U.S. Congressional Certificate of Achievement

  • Awardees will also have the opportunity to meet with potential mentors and and experts in various fields student’s interest at the SDIAS Awards Ceremony. Students requesting to be mentored for that year will be paired up with either a panel of mentors, or individual mentors as needed.

If there is no funding or there are no qualified applicants that reflect this format the scholarship will not be awarded for that year.
