Communications - Fred Lewis

Fred Lewis was a well-known and much loved television talent and professor at City College. Fred began his career as a radio announcer when he was 18, and honed his talent with many TV assignments as turning KSDO into all news, Telepulse on Channel 8, and his long-running and award winning television interview program, The Heart of San Diego. Fred joined the San Diego City College Telecommunications Department in 1975.

Fred taught Television performance and public speaking for many years. His students over the years included future professionals Bree Walker, Whitney Southwick and Lena Nozizwe. This scholarship is awarded in honor of Professor Fred Lewis, and the goal of this scholarship is to seek, reward, and encourage individuals who evidence talent, persistence, and artistic excellence in performance aspects of communications.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must be enrolled at San Diego City College in Fall and Spring of the current academic year
  • 3.0 or higher
  • Must be a declared communications major
  • Must have completed six (6) units in communications (Radio/TV/Film)

If there is no funding or there are no qualified applicants that reflect this format the scholarship will not be awarded for that year.
