Communications - Hope Shaw

Hope Shaw died April 6, 2005 while swimming in the ocean near La Paz, Mexico. Hope began her career as a documentary and public affairs producer at Channel 10 in San Diego. In 1967, Hope joined the San Diego City College Radio/Television Department. She taught screenwriting, film and video production and news courses and served several times as department chair. This scholarship is awarded in honor of Professor Hope Shaw, and the goal of this scholarship is to seek, reward, and encourage individuals who evidence talent, persistence, and artistic excellence in aspects of communications.


  • Must be enrolled at San Diego City College in the Fall and Spring of the current academic year
  • 2. 5 GPA or higher
  • Must be a declared Communications or Radio/TV/Film major
  • Must have completed six (6) units in communications (Radio/TV/Film)

If there is no funding or there are no qualified applicants that reflect this format the scholarship will not be awarded for that year.
