Peace Studies

Marcia Sanders attended San Diego City College in the mid 1960’s and graduated from Cal State Northridge in 1969 with a B.A. in Sociology. Her intent in funding this scholarship is to assist students that are taking courses in the Peace Studies Program. One of her favorite quotes is, “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me,” a 1955 song/hymn written by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller and usually performed around Christmas. Ms. Sanders thinks of “peace” in a very broad sense, not just lack of warfare between nations. She considers “peace” a very important aspect of the home (no spousal or child abuse), schools (no bullying), work (getting along and cooperating with coworkers), etc.

The belief in “peace” can help defeat racism, sexism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism, which are such strong contributing factors to animosity between human beings.
